What's Happening??

2007 was a year filled with adventure for the Ivy family. We had many exciting hunting clients from the USA, Denmark, UK and South Africa. They were all a pleasure to have and we have made many new friends from those safaris. (Please see below for some of the hunting stories).

The highlight of the year for us, however, was definitely our 6 week family trip to the UK and USA to celebrate Mark's Dad's 80th birthday. (Lisa also went to France to do some marketing). It was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our Christmas card shows a few of the highlights of the trip but there were many more. Every day there were exciting things to see and do and so many interesting things to learn. We will most certainly be repeating it as soon as the pocket allows!!

Hope to see you in 2008!!

Current news!!

Well, we have come to the end of the 2007 hunting season with a bump, it was a great season with many fun times had by all that ventured into the bush with us. I am not going to mention any highlights as there were too many. A few animals that were being chased got away, but then that's hunting. The one that I would like to mention is the Nyala that Hans from Denmark was trying to get. The Nyala taught us a few valuable lessons - the main one being that often the animal is in control!! Ha! Ha! He sure was........... he ran rings around us and got away!!

Carissa has done it again! 1 X Blue Wildebeest Bull with a .22 at 50yards between the eyes! The animal fell where it stood without taking a step.

Of course her father was not at all proud of her!! Ha!Ha!

*******

Kenneth Royce with a bushbuck that he spotted and then hunted himself. It took us a few days to get the smile off his face. This was one of many animals that he took while on safari with us.

*******

Derek Harris from Texas A&M added this 55 inch and a bit kudu to the list of things he saw and did on his University tour. He has his shoes on at the moment, but to get this clever old bull in the thick brush we had to take our shoes off - I don't think he expected that!!

Well done Derek and you didn't even get any serious thorns while getting those serious horns!!??

Anton Weavind's Groups this year had some real highlights, amongst others this Eland and the Kudu below. Shaun's son Noah is one of the most well-behaved, patient kids around. He sat in a hide with his dad ALL day, but it was not done in vain as his dad at last light put this big boy down!

An assortment of various hunters that came during 2008. Well done to all of you and thank you for choosing Ivy Safaris as your place in the African sun!!

Paul, Ross and Larry (from Ohio) hunted with us for 11 days in May. We started off slowly with the first 3 days being not very fruitful, but then things started to happen and they all got what they came for. The safari was filled with humorous times and plenty of late evenings with some real hectic hunting, stalking and socialising.

Ron Campbell from Washington DC was back to get that Red Hartebeest that got away three years ago. As you can see he got a good one. He was on a business trip in Southern Africa and decided to hook up with his good friend from Swaziland (Tommy Stephens). Tommy enjoyed his wingshooting. It was a good few days in the bush!!

After Easter we had our first junior hunters of the year. Chantel (14), after 4 solid days of walking and stalking with some real close calls, finally got her Eland cow. Just what she was looking for! It was an 80m frontal shot, that went straight through the heart and the cow only managed another 50m before she went down. Justin (16) got a nice old Wildebeest bull with a frontal shot and a 200m track, as you can see, he sure is happy.

Old news below!!

In March we had our first big safari of the year, it was a group of youngsters (15 + 1 Teacher) from The Netherlands (Holland). They were here for an ECOWISE Safari, with a logistics and urban development angle to the safari. They had a look at various developments that are under construction or are about to be constructed for the 2010 Fifa world cup. They also put together some interesting proposals for our little town of Munnik to turn it into a historical village tourist attraction.

Of course one cannot come to Africa without seeing some wild animals and experiencing some of what Africa has to offer. All the youngsters spent some time in the bush, some were even lucky enough to experience some hunting and all had a few shots with various rifles, etc. Here are 2 photos taken of their safari.

It was a fun group and they seemed to really enjoy themselves. We thank them for sharing their knowledge with us and hope that they gleened something from us in return! We would especially like to thank their tutor, Ms Elske van der Wal, for organising this interesting safari. We wish them all well for the future!

If you would like to know more about the above safari please let us know and we will let the info flow!! Also feel free to contact Elske directly at elskevdwal@hotmail.com - she will be happy to discuss their experiences with you.
